BACKGROUND: One of the natural ingredients that can be used as a substitute for preventing dental caries is methanol extract Laban leaves. contains various compounds are known to have antibacterial properties. The traditional ability Leaf Methanol Extract has been proven treat diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. AIM: aim study was analyzing activity test leaf toothpaste (Vitex pinnata) against growth Streptococcus mutans bacteria. METHODS: This type laboratory experimental research (true design) with post-test only control group design. conducted at Poltekkes Pharmacy Laboratory Ministry Health in Aceh July-August. sample consisted leaves collected randomly Ie Seu Um Geothermal area Selawah Agam Besar. Data analysis carried out descriptively. Antibacterial data were statistically processed one-way ANOVA confidence level α 0.05. RESULTS: organoleptic results observed 3 weeks showed there differences color and aroma; higher concentration resulting color, darker it was, soft, sweet taste laban extract. pH acidity an effect storage time (the week I, II, III) on toothpaste’s value. viscosity formula combined met SNI 12-524-1995 standards regarding toothpaste. Toothpaste F3. 4.5% greatest viscosity, ranging from 241.0 (PDAs), followed F2. 240.4%, F1. 237.6%. active ingredient concentration, greater foam formation show foam’s stability greatly influenced particle size. more size, lower stability. based significance value (0.000) <0.05, difference number bacterial colonies variable. repetition significant values (0.423)> 0.05, which means all repetitions same colonies, so no CONCLUSION: Minimum inhibitory S. aimed 4.5%, average 108.5 × 10−7 CFU/mL).
